Editing.

We finally finished getting all the cutting up down with our editing, selecting the shots that we wanted to use and put all the film in the correct order, we chopped down on the specific shots to the appropriate time that we wanted each shot to be and we made lots of cuts and made them quick so it added tension and drama in the shots. Me and Oli were very pleased with what we had achieved, we knew we hadn't finished yet at all, but we were pleased to have it all in order with the shots we wanted and what pleased us even more was the fact that the total time for the film came to 2:02, which is under the examination guidelines. We havent had a media lesson since, but we planned ahead and we need to add in the 'Working Title' symbol at the start of the film, we need to add titles throughout the first two minutes and we also need to decide what music we want and how we are going to fit that in. In addition to this, at the end of last lesson, we edited the last shot which sees me knocking on the door where i am delivering the suitcase. The angle for this shot is taken from high in the my right hand corner, we wanted to make this look like CCTV footage as we thought that would look very effective, so i changed the colour of the shot to grey, this gives it a good effect and we are also going to experiment with writing to put over the top so we can make our own sort of CCTV camera ourselves.

Problems when editing.

In one of our lessons this week, me and oli came across a continuity error. We had filmed part of me getting in the car in two different places and when we came to put the two shots together, it just didnt look right. We were very disappointed by this as we really liked the camera shot. The photo above shows the angle that we were going for, but obviously it wasn't me who was filming as i was in the shot, so oli was doing the filming. The effect of this shot looked really good, as it showed me walking around the side of the car and getting into the front passenger seat. The problem was that we had filmed me putting the suitcase in the back of the car on the beach and this shot was done on lay by next to the loch, so when we put the two shots together, it just didnt look right. In the end me and oli came to the decision to get rid of it completely which disappointed both of us, but we knew it had to be done if we wanted to make our film look as realistic as possible.

Editing.

We were coming close to finishing up our cutting up of the footage, we had managed to get rid of a lot of stuff and we also had to agree on stuff that we had filmed but didnt actually need for the film. We knew from the start that we had to get a lot chopped down as we needed to make it 2 minutes long but in this lesson me and oli worked very well and we completed the cutting up of the footage.

Editing.

In this lesson me and oli managed to finish cutting up our footage and we started to cut parts out that we didnt like or want. We started from the start as we thought that would make the most sense, as we cut out a load of the first shot, and picked the one which we thought was the best. We also cut down on the length of  time that the shot took to do, we knew that our film had to be a maximum of 2 minutes so we didnt want to have any excess footage that wasnt needed and this way we wouldnt waste anytime.

Editing.

The next lesson was pretty much the same, i was absent from one of the lessons as i was taking part in a RAG Week event, so i left Oli to continue cutting up our footage. After the lesson had ended, Oli informed me that he had cut up a good majority of the footage and that he was pleased with what he had done. We both agreed that the lesson after that we would aim to get all the cutting up down and then focus in more detail on every scene and pick the shot that we thought looked the best and most effective.

Editing.

In our next media lesson, me and oli cracked on with the editing. Last lesson we completed the upload of our footage so we were ready to go straight away with cutting up the different scenes. Me and Oli took it in turns to cut different parts up, we knew that this would be a pretty long task as we have a lot of footage, so we started to cut the footage into main parts before going into more detail and deleting parts we didnt want. We did shots more than once up in scotland as we knew we couldnt exactly go back up there easily to re film a part which we didnt like, so by shooting more than one shot of the same thing, we maximized the chance of us getting the perfect shot. The lesson was pretty successful, we managed to cut up certain parts and we started to concentrate on getting rid of the spare footage from the first shot which shows the camera zooming out of the boathouse to reveal the loch and the car on the side of the road.

Editing.

After half term we returned back to school and on the first day back we brought in the camera equipment to load up to the school computers and began to edit. The media lesson we had on the first day back was taken up mostly by us loading the footage onto Adobe. As we had about 25 mins of filming in total, it took quite a long time to load, but eventually we saved it all and got it sorted for the next lesson in which we will start to cut the footage up into scenes and go from there.

Shooting Diary

These three photos were some of the final photos that we took as we came closer to finishing off the filming for our 2 minute opener. The top two photos are of me and oli up high in a mountain in the pouring rain, we decided to try and get a good shot of the boathouse and the loch from high up as we believed it would look very effective but the weather wasnt on our side and when we tried to film the shot, the mist was pretty strong and it made the shot unclear. We kept the shot just in case we could try and do something about it in editing but we are still undecided whether or not we will use it. The bottom photo is what the shot was planning to show. Right in the distance you can see the faint outline of the boathouse and we planned for the camera to zoom out and reveal roughly the same as the photo, but as you can see by the photo the weather wasn't great and there was a lot of mist and haze lying about. These photos were near the final photos that we took of filming and it was roughly our last shot before we covered everything that me and oli wanted to do.

These three photos were also taken on the 3rd day of filming. These photos are pretty similar to the ones below of oli in the back of the car holding the camera, but we went for a different angle and approach this time. I laid on my stomach holding the camera in my hands without the tripod with the boot of the car open, we thought that having the camera handheld this time would look effective as we would have a lower angle shot and it would produce a exciting and tension building sort of feel. As you can see Oli was holding onto my legs pretty tight, which was a good thing as when we started driving i lurched forward and felt as if i was going to fall out, thankfully i didn't and we got the shot that we both wanted and we were very happy with it.

These three photos were taken on the 3rd day of filming and this is possibly the most extreme shot that we took overall in our filming. As you can see the photo makes the shot look pretty dangerous, but we thought that it would look very effective. We got Oli sitting in the back of the car with the camera and tripod set up in front of him, i had a pretty important job holding him steady as we were driving at a pretty fast pace with the boot open. The shot overall looked very effective and me and oli believe that it will add a lot of excitement and tension to our film.

These two photos were taken on the 3rd and final day of filming in scotland. We had managed to get the majority of the shots done in the first two days and only needed to get a few specific shots in the final day. As you can see we didn't have great luck with the weather again and thats why i am holding the umbrella. This photo shows me and oli setting up the camera for a panning shot of the car speeding past. We wanted to get this shot so that it would add excitement and tension and it will also make the audience curious about where the car is heading. All Oli had to do was pan the camera around when the car came and went and by the looks of it on the handheld camera, the shot looked very effective.

Shooting Diary.

This is a photo taken right at the end of the day of the second day of filming in scotland. We finished the filming for the day at the location where the suitcase is being delivered to. We decided to include all the different props and equipment that we used on the day to show in the picture.

Shooting Diary.

These two photos were taken from the end of day two of filming. As you can see the weather wasn't great that day, so oli had to use the umbrella to cover up the camera so it wouldn't get the lens wet. These two photos show the start of the scene where i am approaching the house with the suitcase. We took many different angles of me approaching the house and we plan to use quick cuts from all different types of angles so we can make it as exciting as possible.

Shooting Diary.

These two photos were taken on the second day of filming aswell, it was nearing the end of the filming for the day and near the end of the actual film. We didnt film in the correct order as we decided to do certain parts in certain days and this saved us time. The photos here show me in the car just as ive pulled up to the secret location. We placed the camera in this position, behind the bushes and roots, to give the shot a secretive and mysterious feel and we think that this shot will look very effective.

Shooting Diary.

These two photos were taken on the second day of filming, the top photo is just a basic location shot of me and oli but the one below shows oli setting up the camera for the shot where the car speeds past. Oli pans the camera as the car goes past and it makes the shot look very effective.

these two photos were taken on the second day of filming in scotland. The top photo shows oli using the camera to get the shot where i place the suitcase in the back of the car. The top photo is very effective as it shows us in action. The photo below that shows me and oli with the boat that is used at the start of the film. It also shows the good location shot with the loch and the mountains in the background.

Shooting Diary.

These are another two photos that were taken on the second day of filming. These photos show the setup for the shot where i approach the car and place the suitcase in the back of the car. The top photo shows the position of the camera and tripod that we put it in to achieve the camera shot that is used in the frame where i place the suitcase in the back. Oli was sitting behind the camera when we filmed it to make sure we got a clear and effective shot.

these two photos where taken on the second day of filming in scotland, the photos above are concentrated  on the specific shot where i am seen placing the suitcase in the back of the car. The photo at the top shows the angle at which we filmed the shot. We agreed that this angle had a pretty cool effect and we believed that it would look the best out of all the other possible angles.

Shooting Diary.

this photo is of Oli in his costume. We first thought that he would be wearing the glasses in the film, but when we came to the decision that i would be taking the main role, we decided to switch the glasses over. We thought that me having the glasses on would make me look more like a secret agent which is the type of image that i was looking for.

Shooting Diary

These are two photos of the main character in the film, which is me. I am wearing the costume which im wearing in the actual film, minus the coat. These photos look effective as it shows a good location shot and makes the film look more realistic.

Shooting Diary

These are two photos from the first day of filming, the top photo is showing what the opening shot will be like, we did many shots starting with the camera zoomed in on the boathouse, which you can see in the distance and then slowly zooming out to reveal the loch and the car which can both be seen in the photo.
the photo below is of me recording out of the window concentrating on the wing mirror. we drove the car at a slow pace so the camera could get a good shot of the road and we hope to speed this shot up a little in editing.

Filming Diary- Day One.

This photo was taken on the first day of our filming, as you can see its a little wet, so we had to use an umbrella to cover up the camera. We filmed for over 2 hours on the first day concentrating mainly on the opening shots and the shots in the car.

Completed filming.

Me and Oli completed our filming for our media task in february half term, we did the task over a number of days as we had to base our decisions around the weather because it was a bit on and off, we think that the filming was very successful and we are pleased with what we had completed. We have a lot of filming, 25 minutes or so which is a lot of film but we believe that it gives us good options to edit it down to. We have certain ideas about the things that we want to do in the editing stage and now we just hope that we can get it looking as good as we first planned.
